Addiction

Recommended Posts

hey, i was just wondering how addictive hookah is in relations to cigarettes. how much nicotine is in cigarettes compared to hookah in percentage? im only asking because when i first started hookah and i would smoke, i wouldnt have cravings or anything and i wasnt addicted. however, now for some reason even though i smoke just aobut the same amount, i have been getting major cravings even hours after i smoked. i still limit it to about 3-4 times a month but there are definetly cravings that werent there before.

I think you inhale more nicotine so i would guess you could get addicted, kinda new to hookah though so im just going off what i read

Hmm, wel i dunno. You inhale alot more smoke of course because it is much smoother than a cig, and your not directly burning the tobbacco itself. Actually, if you set everything up right, you are just cooking the glycerine mostly, which has absorbed some of the Nicotine in the tobacco. With a cig you aren't inhaling straight tobbacco, it's got a bunch of crap in it as well (unless it's a Nat Sherman), so you get whatever that does to you including a Nicotine buzz. Shisha is baked glycerine that is vaporizing, so you get quite alot of nicotine, but in a much less direct way and there is quite a smaller amount of nicotine, you get more of a buzz though because you
1. Are inhaling more smoke and direct nicotine.
2. Are inhaling more smoke and not getting enough Oxegyn
3. You are also inhaling CO2 from the coals

So if you smoke atleast 4 times a wek or more, the nicotine could start to get to you, but not nearly even close to what a Cigarete addiction is like.
Honestly, i would say limit your smoking.

I don't think I have ever suggested this before, but try doing a search. This topic seems to come up very frequently over the years. There is nicotine is hookah tobacco, you are inhaling the smoke, of course you will get addicted to nicotine from smoking a hookah. The more you smoke the more likely it becomes and the sooner it will happen, but most everyone starts off smoking occasionally and it steadily increases, then it seems that all of a sudden they're smoking really frequently and are hooked. It is a risk that comes with every drug you put into your system.

I feel more addicted to the flavor and the experience. I mean it is quite fun to smoke with friends and also just to buy new things and try them out. I also don't smoke but like two times a week maybe three. By the way I hate strong buzzs so maybe that is why I feel like I don't I'm addicted to the nicotine part of smoking.

I smoked cigs for many years and I must say Hookah smoking does not make me fell like I need to smoke all the time. Definately does not have the addictive qualities as cigs. I agree with sss8789 about the taste enjoyment. I do get a little buzz from Tangiers, but I could smoke a cig afterwards and get buzzed from it. I smoke about 3 times a day. If I skip 1 time, it is no biggie to me.

I feel sick sometimes too, but usualy I stop. I want to smoke right now but my lazyness overcomes my urge. I also really don't care it I get addicted because I never smoke alone so that is also how I overcome the urge to smoke. But it you are really worried about getting addicted try Hookah Hookah's Black Label its herbal and it looks like they have some good flavors. Also try to do something when you get the urge to smoke, clean, run, something to get your mind off of it. Also I like to suck air through the hose because you can still taste the last flavor and it tricks your mind into thinking your smoking. biggrin.gif

i just did a paper on this in school actually. cigarettes have increased addictiveness 20% over 10 years. i did some rough math and found that cigs have 11.6% nicotine per gram of tobacco. shisha has between 0.05% and 0.5% depending on washed and unwashed. HUUUUUUGE difference

I also plan on getting some Black Label once I get money so I'll put up a review. Here is a article about it. http://hookahblog.com/herbal-shisha.html

yeah im completely into the herbal shisha, all the enjoyment (without the buzz, but thats ok) and I hear that black label does a good job on the flavor so... Im gonna have to chill over christmas break and enjoy some nice herbal shisha.

I still think this could be mental, you dont smoke it often enough to develop a nicotine addiction. You may be mentally addicted to the relaxing effect or the buzz. You need to cut down or stop for a while to help your mind think about other things, then later you can go back to smoking casually. But you can do whatever you think is right, after all only you know whats right for yourself.

Well personally I think there are a number of things involved with being addicted.

First Off, I crave hookah all the time, it's just something I do. I think about what I would like to smoke when I get home while i'm at work. But most all I think what I am addicted to isn't the tobacco it's self, I think I enjoy the feeling of relaxation that takes over me. I enjoy gaming and spending time with my friends when I smoke. I crave that more than the tobacco or the flavor. I crave being somewhere i would rather be, than at a boring job or function.

On the other hand I smoke 1 bowl every night while I game/ watch a movie/ tv/ whatever. Unlike with ciggs, I don't feel the urge to go outside every couple of hours and smoke. I don't get headaches, or withdrawl symptoms if I don't get to smoke my hookah. On top of that Hookah is "inconvienent" unlike a cigg which you fire up anywhere at at time just about.

I think you may crave hookah, but you can sustain longer periods of time inbetween without any of the nasty side effects.

I forgot the most important part of addiction with Hookahs. I can not seem to stop wanting to try new flavors and pipes. I have been going crazy since Nov.1. I have spent close to $500 now. Time to take away my Debit card. Thank God I do not have any credit cards anymore. I gave those up about 10 years ago!

i think at most cigs would have 1.16%. check your rounding, 11.6% nicotine would kill you.

I have really gotten into shisha since September this year and smoke for a few hours every day...

The plus side is that when I go back home from Uni in June, I will stop as I cannot smoke at home - hopefully I won't have shisha cravings tongue.gif
